The College of Journalism and Mass Communications is hosting its seventh Interdisciplinary Conference on Human Trafficking Oct. 1-3 at Embassy Suites, 1040 P St.
The conference, inspired by the human trafficking work by Sriyani Tidball, assistant professor of practice, features researchers from non-government organizations, academia and governmental organizations.
“I am always so impressed with the quality of abstracts and presentations that make it into the conference each year,” Tidball said. “As this is an academic and research conference the level of work presented is always very exciting and new, and that is why our conference is so successful and different every year. The UNL team of professors who have been organizing this conference is all committed to making a difference as we counter human trafficking.”
Presenters include Siddharth Kara, an adjunct lecturer and director of the human trafficking and modern slavery program at Harvard University; and Kevin Bales, co-founder of Free the Slaves and a professor at England’s University of Hull.
Kara’s lecture, sponsored by the Nebraska University Students Against Modern Slavery, is 7 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Nebraska Union Auditorium.
Bales’ keynote address, “The Prevalence of Human Trafficking World Wide,” is 10:40 a.m. Oct. 2 at Embassy Suites.
