Three UNL choirs take center stage April 28

The Glenn Korff School of Music hosts an “Evening of Choirs” in a 7:30 p.m. April 28 performance in Kimball Hall. Choirs that will take the stage include the University Chorale, All-Collegiate Choir and Varsity Men’s Choir.

Tickets, available at the door are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

The University Chorale will sing a variety of well-known songs for women’s voices, including those by Brahms and Mendelssohn, as well as several modern pieces. The performance will include “Selecting a Reader,” a piece by UNL masters student Scott Rieker that includes text by Ted Kooser, former U.S. Poet Laureate and English professor emeritus.

The All-Collegiate Choir will perform music of the Americas, beginning with “Credo No.9 in Bb” by José Maurício Nunes Garcia.

The choir will continue with “Esto Les Digo,” a contemporary choral work by Texas composer Kinley Lange, and end with a 21st century version of “El Grillo.”

The Varsity Men’s Chorus will perform a new work commemorating the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.

The concert will conclude with a new setting for men’s chorus of Harriet Tubman’s “Wade in the Water.”
