An informational session about Tropical Island Ecosystems (NRES 492) will take place from 5-6 p.m., Oct. 13 in Hardin Hall room 163. The course, which is open to all UNL students, includes a trip to Puerto Rico during spring break. Pizza will be provided at the informational session.

Students will have the opportunity to experience the rain and dry forests, snorkel on a tropical reef and bioluminescent bay and explore the tropical rivers, underground caves and beaches of Puerto Rico. They will also visit research stations and interact with locals while observing the components of tropical ecosystems on a major island system.

The class will be offered during the spring 2015 semester and will meet each Monday from 5 to 5:50 p.m. in Hardin Hall room 228. The cost to participate in the trip, excluding tuition, is approximately $1,775. The trip fee includes airfare, ground transportation, entry fees and housing in Puerto Rico. The fee does not include food, which will cost an estimated $300.

Interested students are encouraged to attend the informational session. However, an application can be obtained by contacting Dennis Ferraro, professor of practice, at 472-8248 or dferraro1@unl.edu. Applications are due Nov. 1.
