The UNL Maker Club presents the first ‘Ignite Nebraska Makers’ event at 6 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the Sheldon Museum of Art. The event, which is also sponsored by the museum, is free and open to the public.

“’Ignite Nebraska Makers’ will showcase the innovation and entrepreneurship that’s happening right now in Nebraska,” said Jay Carlson, club president and a graduate student in electrical engineering.

The UNL Maker Club is organizing the event to exhibit innovative work from Nebraskan makers through rapid, five-minute presentations explaining their projects, their reasons for making the projects, their unique processes and the outcomes of their projects. Presentations include recycled aircraft tiles, ion exchange water desalination, straw bale construction and many more.

This event expresses the commitment by the Sheldon and the Maker Club to support creative minds that are on the cusp of innovative thinking. Carlson said he hopes this event will help Nebraskans understand the importance of making, while fostering support for Innovation Studio, the planned makerspace at Nebraska Innovation Campus.
