Executive order shifts holiday leave option

As a result of an executive order signed by President Barack Obama on Dec. 5, Gov. Dave Heineman has announced that state government agencies will be closed Dec. 26.

State law provides that whenever the president gives federal employees paid time off, the State of Nebraska shall grant the same benefit to state employees.

The majority of UNL employees will not be working Dec. 26 because of the annual holiday closedown. UNL employees were scheduled already to use a floating holiday from a state holiday previously worked. An additional day of administrative leave will be observed Dec. 26 to comply with the president’s order.

For eligible UNL employees, a day of administrative leave will be automatically posted by the payroll office for the departments that requested automatic postings. This is a change from the previously communicated floating holiday that was scheduled to be posted for this date. Floating holiday leave will be moved from Dec. 26 to Dec. 31, which was previously schedule to be a vacation day. Employees must still take a vacation day on Jan. 2.

If you have any questions, contact the payroll services office at 402-472-2010 or payrolldept2@unl.edu. The IANR Finance and Personnel Office can also be contacted at 402-472-1421 or financeandpersonnel@unl.edu.
