“Feeling are Facts: the Life of Yvonne Rainer” will be showing at UNL’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center Nov. 20-26.

In 1966, Yvonne Rainer changed the world of modern dance by analyzing the repertoire of human movement with her performance “Trio A.” Influenced by Merce Cunningham and John Cage, Rainer developed socio-political choreographies in which she explored on stage everyday movements in a way that deliberately thwarted audience expectations.

Rainer began experimenting with film, applying to the new medium the same revolutionary impetus that was to be found in her bodywork.

Complementing Rainer’s own recollections are contributions from dance experts and fellow travelers, such as Carolee Schneeman and B. Ruby Rich. Today, at age 80, Rainer is still working on the stage.

Also showing at the Ross is “Welcome to Leith.” The documentary shows the attempted takeover of a small-town in North Dakota by white supremacist Craig Cobb.
