Brigid Schulte, best-selling author and award-winning journalist for The Washington Post, is the keynote speaker for the Nebraska Alumni Association’s Cather Circle fall conference. The event will be 9 to 10:45 a.m. Sept. 19 at the Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

After a time-use researcher told her she had 30 hours of leisure time a week, Schulte wound up writing a book in search of it. She traveled across the U.S. and abroad, talking with neuroscientists, sociologists and hundreds of working parents to tease out the factors contributing to Americans’ collective sense of being overwhelmed, seeking insights, answers and inspiration. “Overwhelmed: Work, Love and Play When No One Has the Time” is the story of her findings.

Cather Circle, a program of the Nebraska Alumni Association, offers UNL alumnae and female students opportunities for professional growth, leadership development and mentoring. Every fall, alumna members return to campus to network with each other and connect with UNL students.

The 2014 conference includes a celebration of Cather Circle’s 15th anniversary on Sept. 18. Founding members and past chairs of the program will be honored at the dinner.

Schulte’s presentation is the latest in the Cather Circle Speaker Series presented by Baylor Evnen, and is made possible by support from local law firm Baylor, Evnen, Curtiss, Grimit & Witt, LLP.
