The new Nebraska “N” icon maked its first official appearance on University of Nebraska-Lincoln websites May 8.
Announced in December, the redesigned “N” is replacing icons used by UNL academic units, Husker Athletics and the Nebraska Alumni Association. The new campus icon is an optimized version of the Huskers’ “N,” reconfigured to align within a square matrix of a digital pixel grid. Marcelo Plioplis, creative director with University Communications, updated the icon.
Adoption of the new brand will be completed over an extended period of time, with key campus elements — like pole banners and entrance signage — updated by July 1.
Admissions, which begins fall recruitment campaigns in May, is the first campus unit to complete a transition to the new icon. The website update, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 8, is aligned with Admissions’ use of the “N.”
“We’re updating the web framework after May commencement to include the new identity,” said Bob Crisler, director of Internet and interactive media for University Communications and Information Technology Services. “Website branding will be automatically updated for any UNL site within our content management system.”
University Communications will be making the updated “N” icon available next week via the online Nebraska Toolbox and Brand Book.
All UNL departments and units will begin using the new Nebraska “N” rather than the old academic “N” in all projects starting July 1. Some campus signage and other existing items with the academic “N” will continue to be used and replaced only if damaged or as budgets allow.
