The University Libraries will mark “Preservation Week” (April 26 to May 2) by making campus aware of the importance of preserving knowledge resources, mementos and family heirlooms. Scheduled events include a free webinar, related display and a book preservation demonstration.

Events include:

  • At 1 p.m. April 30 in Love Library, Room 110 there will be a webinar, “Digital Preservation for Individuals and Small Groups,” with Mike Ashenfelder, digital preservation project coordinator. Ashenfelder will talk about what is involved in preserving commonly used digital files, such as photos, recordings, videos and documents. The webinar will be free and open to all. No registration required.

  • At 5 p.m. May 1 on the second floor of Love Library, there will be a “First Friday” event, “Sewing a Book.” Robin McClanahan will demonstrate how to sew pamphlets together into a bound book.

  • During the month of April there will be a display in lower level Love Library archives. The content of display includes obsolete equipment, rare books and preservation tips.

Follow the libraries’ Instagram account (@UNL_Lib) to see featured photos of materials that need preservation or received preservation. Using the hashtags “#PreservationWeek” and “#PassItOn” are encouraged.
