University choirs bring ‘Joy’ to the Newman Center

The Glenn Korff School of Music’s University Singers and All-Collegiate Choir will present a free and public recital, “Joy,” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Newman Center, 320 N 16th St. The concert is part of several upcoming musical events this week on campus.

“Joy” will feature a number of diverse pieces, including the seminal “Exultate Deo” by German composer Hans Leo Hassler and a performance of “Psalm 108” by Nebraska composer, faculty and alumnus David von Kampen.

The All-Collegiate Choir’s program, “A Celebration of Black Composers,” will include music by Adolphus Hailstork, Carlos Simon, José Mauricio Nunes Garcia, R. Nathaniel Dett and Undine Smith Moore. The expanded pipe organ in the west gallery will be used near the end of the recital.

The Wahoo Public High School choir also will sing under the direction of recent Glenn Korff School of Music graduate Hunter Boe.
