UNL’s Trans-Nebraska Players will showcase live music set to the 1909 silent film “They Would Elope” in a Feb. 8 performance. The recital, which is free and open to the public, opens at 3 p.m. in Kimball Hall.

The music for the performance was composed and arranged by Maria Newman, who is the youngest child of nine-time, Oscar award-winning composer Alfred Newman. Maria Newman is also a friend of UNL’s Clark Potter, associate professor of viola.

Other music on the program includes Beethoven’s Notturno for viola and fortepiano and Serenade for flute, violin and viola; Mozart’s flute quartet in D; and Maurice Gardner’s Tricinium for solo viola.

The Trans-Nebraska Players feature musicians from across Nebraska. Performers from UNL include Ann Chang (fortepiano), David Neely (violin) and Clark Potter (viola). Performers from the University of Nebraska at Kearney are Duane Bierman (percussion), Franziska Brech (flute) and Noah Rogoff (cello). Also performing is Chadron State University’s James Margetts (piano).
