Summer grill outs on East Campus have returned with an ever-expanding menu and double the opportunity to partake.
Organized by Ron White, assistant food service manager at Massengale Hall dining service, the lunchtime grill outs feature traditional burgers and hot dogs (both served with flavorful twists) alongside family recipes hailing from New Orleans and the Caribbean.
This is the sixth summer University Housing has hosted the grill outs on the plaza along the north entrance to the Nebraska East Union. Previously held twice weekly, the events are 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays over six weeks between June 5 and July 27.
The special summer offering started as a way to sell stacks of excess frozen hamburgers. An overwhelming customer response led to housing leaders increasing the menu and the inclusion of family recipes provided by White.
“We’ve got a lot of new items on the menu and we will be out here nearly every day,” White said. “It’s going to be a whole lot of fun spending the summer sharing great food and the flavors of my youth with the campus community.”
