Student-athletes to be honored during 34th annual celebration

The "Night at the Lied Center" event celebrating the excellence of Nebraska's student-athletes is April 28. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will celebrate the excellence of its student-athletes during “A Night at the Lied” on April 28.

Hosted by the Academic and Life Skills departments, the 34th annual event honors student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership. The celebration is free and open to the university community.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for a red-carpet reception with hors d’oeuvres and dessert selections. Seating begins at 6:30 p.m. with the program starting at 7 p.m.

Honors being presented include:

  • Best Athlete to one female and one male student-athlete for outstanding athletic performance over the course of the past year;

  • Outstanding Scholar Award to nine Huskers who are at the end of their college careers and hold a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.9 or better; and

  • Heart and Soul Awards reserved for student-athletes who exhibit the highest level of commitment to leadership, service and mentorship during their time as a Husker.

Other awards to be presented include Outstanding Freshman of the Year, Herman Team GPA Award, Brook Berringer Team Award, Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership Award, Tom Osborne Citizenship Team Medallions, and Academic Medallions.

The ceremony will close with the awarding of the 2024 female and male Student-Athletes of the Year. These recipients will be Nebraska’s recipients of the Big Ten Medal of Honor.
