International students and graduate assistants are automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan each semester.

Automatic enrollment begins when the student health insurance premium is charged to the student account. Once the charges appear in MyRED, the next step is to accept or waive the coverage. Please review step-by-step instructions to accept or waive coverage if needed.

Timeline to Coverage:
It may take up to 24 hours from when the charges first appear in MyRED before the student can accept or waive the coverage. Insurance charges will appear as early as Dec. 23 and will continue to post weekly.

  • International students must be enrolled for spring classes before the insurance charge will appear in MyRED.
  • Graduate assistants must be enrolled for spring classes, be on an eligible appointment and have the appointment entered into payroll before the insurance charge will appear in MyRED.
  • The coverage period starts on Jan. 1.

International students and graduate assistants will receive a general email on Dec. 23 from the Office of Student Accounts regarding health insurance coverage for the spring semester.

Students are encouraged to contact Student Accounts for assistance with accepting or waiving health insurance.

For help with coverage, claims or dependent enrollment, contact the University of Nebraska student insurance advocate at 866-351-4262.

Note: The 2019 holiday closedown is Dec. 21 to Jan. 1. Staff will return to university offices on Jan. 2.
