A retirement reception for Virginia Smith, professor of theatre and film, is 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. May 2 in the lobby of the Temple Building. The event is free and open to the public.

Smith teaches acting and directing, and served as artistic director of the Nebraska Repertory Theatre from 2005 to 2014. She leads the Master of Fine Arts program in directing for stage and screen and the Bachelor of Arts in directing and management. She has been a part of theatre and film faculty since fall 2000. Prior to coming to Nebraska, Smith worked for 16 years as a theatre professional in Chicago.
