A self-defense class is being offered March 10.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Shotokan Karate of America Club is hosting a self-defense and personal safety class from 6-8 p.m. March 10 in the Nebraska Union Ballroom.

The class will be led by instructor David Altman, a 5th-degree Black Belt.

Karate and self-defense is more than knowing how to punch and kick. It’s a practice of awareness of surroundings, the ability to react when necessary and knowing certain vulnerabilities that all humans possess.

The class will explore these topics through a series of instructional exercises focused on simple, easy-to-remember techniques to protect oneself.

It is open to the public, including people of all ages and abilities. Cost is $15 per participant. Participants are encouraged to wear loose clothing.
