The 2018 Nebraska Plant Breeding Symposium will examine “Plant Breeding for Climate Resilient Agriculture.” The event is March 13 at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel, 333 S. 13th St.

The symposium, hosted by the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, brings together scientists from a variety of specialties involved in crop genetics and improvement. It opens at 8:30 a.m.

The goal of the symposium series at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is to enhance agricultural scientific literacy, stimulate collaboration and help build interest in plant breeding careers. It is presented free and open to the public and via a worldwide webinar.

Topics will include the latest research and advances in plant breeding. Featured speakers are: Katie Greenham discussing the role of time in physiological and transcriptomic responses to abiotic stress; Laura Mayor examining new breeding technologies and their implication in commercial hybrid development; and Mark Sorrells offering his take on plant breeding in the 21st century.

This one-day symposium is free, open to the public, and offered via webinar to the broader scientific community around the world. Lunch is provided for registrants, and the conference will close with a poster session/social hour.
