Reading club to connect faculty/staff with first-gen student needs

Information Technology Services is migrating the university’s virtual private network service.

First Generation Nebraska is hosting a reading club for University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty and staff who are interested in connecting with and supporting first-generation students.

During the fall semester, members of the club will read an article or book chapter each month, starting in October, then meet for an hour online to discuss the reading in the context of their own work on campus. The club will also include a discussion board where participants can contribute thoughts on the readings and respond to others.

Topics to be explored include:

  • What distinguishes first-generation students from continuing-generation students; and

  • As part of creating an equitable and diverse university, how do we include and support first-generation students.

The reading club is open to any faculty or staff employee interested in learning how to better include and offer support to first-generation students. For more information, or to register, click here.
