Project Funway annual fashion show is Nov. 2

TMFD Students use upcycled material to create something new

The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design will host its ninth annual Fresh Start fundraiser, “Project Funway,” from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel, 333 S 13th St. Tickets are $40 for the general public and $20 for students, with all proceeds going towards women in need.

Project Funway is a runway fashion show showcasing submissions from the Lincoln community and university fashion students that use upcycled material repurposed to create something new. All creations include an underlying message on various societal issues. This year’s submissions include a necklace made from soda bottles and a cape fashioned from plastic bags, both meant to represent the effects of plastic pollution on the environment.

Fresh Start has provided services to homeless women and women in need for more than 25 years. More information about the organization can be found on its website.
