The University Libraries, in partnership with the Office of Research and Economic Development, is offering faculty the opportunity to evaluate iThenticate, software that assists academics with avoiding plagiarism and copyright infringement when preparing items for publication.

The iThenticate program was created by iParadigms, the same company that offers the student-focused Turnitin plagiarism detection software.

Through iThenticate, documents are compared to internet content and to more than 40 million published research articles from more than 590 scientific, technical and medical publishers.

The software is designed to check documents for scholarly journals, newspapers and magazines; research articles; grant proposals; manuscripts; and business reports and financial analyses. All documents submitted to iThenticate remain the proprietary property of the writer and are not added to any other database.

Faculty wishing to participate in the pilot study must agree to a confidential, mediated review of their submission with University Libraries faculty.
