Painter Jim Richard to present visiting artist lecture Oct. 10

Painter Jim Richard will present the next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in Richards Hall, room 15. The free and public talk is a part of the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture Series, which ends Nov. 14.

A painting professor at the University of New Orleans, Richard’s paintings, drawings and collages can be found in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum, the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Houston Museum of Fine Art. He has an extensive exhibition record that includes the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Drawing Center, Oliver Kamm Gallery and Jeff Bailey Gallery in New York. Richard was also honored with the Pollock-Krasner Foundation award and a Joan Mitchell Foundation award.

The remaining lectures in the series are:

  • Oct. 31: Jeff Fontana, art history – Fontana’s interests lie in the interpretation of the Italian Renaissance in French and American art in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as the study of drawings and drawing practice in his research on the painter, draftsman and educator George B. Bridgman.

  • Nov. 7: Kim Dickey and Simon Levin, ceramics – Dickey, professor of art at the University of Colorado Boulder, and Levin, full-time studio potter and kiln builder, are talented ceramic artists whose award-winning work has been featured in locations and publications around the globe. Their demonstrations will take place Nov. 7-10.

  • Nov. 14: Lynne Avadenka, printmaking – Avadenka is an American printmaker who creates multimedia work informed by explorations of text, image and the Jewish experience. Her work is featured in the Library of Congress and the New York Public Library.
