‘Oscar Shorts’ opens April 9 at the Ross
“Oscar Shorts 2021,” playing at Nebraska’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center from April 9-22, showcases 2021 Academy Award nominees in the live action, animation and documentary short film categories.
The live action films run for 130 minutes, with a suggested rating of R. Show times through April 15 are 7:45 p.m. April 9, 7:45 p.m. April 10, 4:45 p.m. April 11, 7:45 p.m. April 12, 4:45 p.m. April 14 and 7:45 p.m. April 15.
Live action film nominees include “Feeling Through,” “The Letter Room,” “The Present,” Two Distant Strangers” and “White Eye.”
The animation films run for 99 minutes, with a suggested rating of PG-13. Show times through April 15 are 4:45 p.m. April 9, 4:45 p.m. April 10, 1:45 p.m. April 11, 4:45 p.m. April 12, 7:45 p.m. April 13 and 4:45 p.m. April 15.
Animated short films showing at the Ross include “Burrow,” “Genius Loci,” “If Anything Happens I Love You,” “Opera” and “Yes-People.”
The documentary short films run for 136 minutes, with a suggested rating of R. Show times through April 15 are 1:45 p.m. April 10, 7:45 p.m. April 11, 4:45 p.m. April 13 and 7:45 p.m. April 14.
Documentary short films include “Colette,” “A Concerto is a Conversation,” “Do Not Split,” “Hunger Ward” and “A Love Song for Latasha.”

Also continuing to show at the Ross is “French Exit.”
Showing through April 15, “French Exit” offers proof that even the most caustic characters can be made entertaining and even relatable. The film features Michelle Pfeiffer as Frances Price, a 60-year-old Manhattan socialite who fails in her plan to “die before the money ran out.”
Her husband, Franklin, has been dead for 12 years and with his vast inheritance gone, she cashes in the last of her possessions and resolves to live out her twilight days anonymously in a borrowed apartment in Paris. She is accompanied by her directionless son Malcolm (Lucas Hedges) and a cat named Small Frank — who may or may not embody the spirit of Frances’ dead husband.
