The dark and layered romance “My Cousin Rachel” will open at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center June 9.

Continuing to show is “A Quiet Passion.” The Ross will also host screenings on June 10-11 of the National Theatre’s production of “Peter Pan.”

My Cousin Rachel” tells the story of a young Englishman who plots revenge against his mysterious and beautiful cousin, believing that she murdered his guardian. However, his feelings become complicated as he finds himself falling helplessly and obsessively in love with her. The film is based on the classic Daphne Du Maurier novel of the same name.

This film is rated PG-13 for some sexuality and brief strong language. “My Cousin Rachel” will show through June 22.

In “A Quiet Passion, ” Cynthia Nixon delivers a triumphant performance as Emily Dickinson. Nixon personifies the wit, intellectual independence and pathos of the poet whose genius only came to be recognized after her death. Acclaimed British director Terence Davies evokes Dickinson’s deep attachment to her close-knit family, along with the manners, mores and spiritual convictions of her time that she struggled with and transcended in her poetry.

This film is rated PG-13 for thematic elements, disturbing images and brief suggestive material. “A Quiet Passion” will show through June 15.
