The highly ranked Master of Engineering Management program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has been awarded the prestigious American Society for Engineering Management certification, one of eight programs to receive this honor.

The fully online College of Engineering program meets strict requirements used by the American Society for Engineering Management to certify graduate programs in engineering management. According to program director Jena Asgarpoor, the program is being recognized for achieving high-quality programming and content and its exemplary program delivery, administrative policies and student services that meet and exceed rigorous standards. The certification places the program in the top tier of graduate engineering management programs nationally.

“ASEM’s graduate program certification provides a benchmark to compare an existing master’s program relative to its broadly based quality standards, both for program content and operation. The certification process is comprehensive and preparing our program for it has been in the works for about three years since I arrived at UNL,” Asgarpoor said. “ASEM certifies graduate programs for four years. So, we must apply for recertification in 2024 and prepare for another site visit at that time.”

The 30-credit-hour Master of Engineering Management program is a professional graduate degree for working professionals in engineering, technology and science industries. The program collaborates with the university’s nationally ranked Master of Business Administration program and is consistently ranked highly by U.S. News and World Report, College Choice, Grad School Hub and other organizations. Most recently, the program received the No. 8 spot in The Best Online Master’s in Engineering Management in 2021 by Great Business Schools and 19th among online Master of Engineering Management programs by Best College Reviews.

“Program certification means our students can be assured that their education contains the critical knowledge necessary for success as a future engineering manager,” Asgarpoor said. “Another benefit is that our graduates are exempt from examination and are eligible to apply for immediate recognition by ASEM as a Certified Associate in Engineering Management.”
