Nebraska is home to the Sandhills, one of the largest intact grassland systems in the world. However, in some areas, encroachment of eastern redcedar threatens to change the prairie into forest.
This problem is not unique to Nebraska as the encroachment of trees threatens other grassland systems around the world. Researchers from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln have created the new Prairie Protector video game to help the public understand this threat.
Jennifer Keshwani, an associate professor of biological systems engineering and one of the game’s creators, discussed the project live on RFD-TV on July 26.
