A screening of the documentary “Jane,” about Jane Goodall and her early years conducting chimpanzee research, is 7 p.m. March 12 in the Hardin Hall Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

The film draws on more than 100 hours of never-before-seen footage that has been tucked away in the National Geographic archives for more than 50 years. Award-winning director Brett Morgen tells the story of Goodall, a woman whose chimpanzee research in Gombe, now a national park in Tanzania, challenged the male-dominated scientific consensus of her time and revolutionized people’s understanding of the natural world.

Philip Glass composed the orchestral score for the documentary.

The film is presented by the Natural Resources Diversity Initiative in the School of Natural Resources and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Association for Women in Science. It is being held in conjunction with SNR’s spring documentary series, which concludes April 26 with “The Trees.”

Free parking is offered in all Hardin Hall spaces except meters and reserved facilities spaces. Snacks will be available for purchase and will benefit SNR student organizations. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
