Career Services is offering a series of sessions to demonstrate Handshake, a new online, college employment platform.

The Handshake Demo Days are tailored for employers and University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty and staff who serve as student advisers. The hour-long sessions open July 17 and continue through October.

Handshake, which has replaced Husker Hire Link, is the university’s leading source for students seeking on-campus employment, allowing employers from both on- and off-campus to post job openings. It is used at more than 400 institutions and by 200,000-plus employers. The Handshake system offers a variety of features and makes it easier for students to manage resumes, connect with employers and get a start on future career plans.

Handshake Demo Days for employers open with a 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. July 17 session in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center’s second floor computer lab.

The employer sessions will include basic information about the service (including support access and log in details), how to post openings/events, searching and messaging potential candidates, and reviewing applicants.

Demonstrations for faculty and staff who advise students begin with an 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. July 18 session, also in the Gaughan Center computer lab.

The student adviser sessions will include an overview on how to use Handshake as well as demonstrations on showing students how to access the system.

Registration for both the employer and student adviser Handshake Demo Days sessions is available online. A complete list of the hour-long sessions is below. The sessions are divided into two options — in a computer lab or meeting room. Participants in a meeting room session are encouraged to bring a laptop to the demonstration.

Faculty and staff can gain access to post in Handshake by contacting Amber Pape at apape2@unl.edu or 402-472-3145.
