Career Services is giving Huskers a chance to learn about and experience Handshake, a new, online college employment platform.

Handshake Challenge Week, which will feature daily prizes and a grand prize, is Aug. 27-31. Career Services will host a Handshake booth on the Nebraska Union Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28. The event includes four challenges for current students to complete, including:

  • Logging into a Handshake account and completing the profile and career interest survey. Completion of this challenge earns a free T-shirt available at the Handshake tent outside the Nebraska Union or the Career Services office, Nebraska Union, Room 225.

  • Sending an RSVP to the challenge through the event tab in Handshake accounts. Completion of this challenge by 4 p.m. Aug. 29 earns an entry into a drawing for a Yeti Tumbler.

  • Use Handshake search to star (favorite) at least three jobs, internships and/or employers by 4 p.m. Aug. 30. Completion of this challenge earns an entry into a drawing for a JBL portable Bluetooth speaker.

  • Finish the Handshake Challenge survey available in the Handshake Career Center tab by noon, Aug. 31. Completion of this challenge earns an entry into a drawing for a pair of Nebraska-branded Yeti Coolers.

Completion of all four challenges earns entry into a grand prize drawing for an iPad. The winner will be selected at 4 p.m. Aug. 31. All winners will be notified via Handshake message.

Handshake is an online, college employment platform used by more than 400 institutions and 200,000-plus employers. A replacement for Husker Hire Link, Handshake offers a variety of features and makes it easier for users to manage resumes, connect with employers and get a start on future career plans. It is also the university’s leading source for students seeking on-campus employment.

Faculty and staff can gain access to post in Handshake by contacting Amber Pape at apape2@unl.edu or 402-472-3145.

Students can use Handshake to upload a resume; create an online career profile; learn about employers attending upcoming career fairs; view details about on-campus career events; research contact information for employers; and search for and apply to open positions.
