Five choirs in total from the Glenn Korff School of Music will perform at two Evening of Choirs performances Oct. 14 and 26.

The Glenn Korff School of Music will present an Evening of Choirs on Oct. 14 and 26.

The first Evening of Choirs performance will take place 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Newman Center, 320 N. 16th St. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature performances by University Singers and the All-Collegiate Choir.

The second performance will be 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets, which are $5 for general admission and $3 for students/seniors, will be available at the door. The concert will be livestreamed; details on how to watch will be available here on the day of the performance. Chamber Singers, University Chorale and Varsity Chorus will also perform at the concert.

University Chorale will have an eclectic mix of old and new music performed in several languages. Chamber Singers will celebrate the possible 500th anniversary of Vicente Lusitano’s birth, who is likely the first published Black composer. Additional songs in a neo-Renaissance style, along wth contemporary works, will complete their set. The concert ends with the All-Collegiate Choir, a chamber orchestra and faculty tenor Kevin Hanrahan combining for a centennial celebration to perform R. Nathaniel Dett’s “The Chariot Jubilee,” which premiered in 1921.

University Singers, under the direction of Peter Eklund, is the university’s premiere and historic flagship choral ensemble. It performs music from the 13th century through the present, including works written especially for it.

The All-Collegiate Choir, under the direction of Ronnie Zanella, is composed of university students as well as singers from the Lincoln area.

The Chamber Singers, under the direction of Marques L.A. Garrett, is the university’s vocal chamber ensemble.

University Chorale, which is also under the direction of Garrett, is a soprano-alto choir that performs literature from various time periods.

Varsity Chorus, which is under the direction of Eklund, is dedicated to the art of music. Membership is open to any male singer enrolled at the university.
