Fagan to kick off Our Nebraska events

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will host a weeklong series of events exploring diversity and inclusion issues. The Our Nebraska program, previously known as the Empowerment Forum, is Jan. 28-31.

The events, which are designed to help individuals become stronger community leaders, are free and open to students, faculty and staff.

This year’s theme is “Every Story Matters.”

The keynote address will be delivered by Helen Fagan, an assistant professor of agricultural leadership, education and communication. She is also chief executive officer and founder of the Global Leadership Group.

Her talk is noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Heritage Room.

The entire week schedule includes:

  • Our Nebraska Keynote: Helen Fagan, assistant professor of agricultural leadership, education and communication; noon to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 28, Nebraska Union Heritage Room.

  • Tea Time: Our Nebraska Edition, 11 a.m. to noon, Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, Kawasaki Reading Room.

  • Our Nebraska Panel: Nebraska Journeys, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Law College Auditorium, Room 115. This event will feature inspiring stories delivered by Kayla Banwarth, a former Husker volleyball player; Gatluak Ramdiet, a law student from South Sudan; J. Roach, a campus life director for Youth for Christ; and Karen Bell-Dancy, executive director of the Lincoln YWCA.

  • Express Yourself Expo, 6 p.m., art exhibition and refreshments, Nebraska Union, Regency Room; and performances at 7 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Auditorium.
