Employee Assistance Program extends couples course

The Employee Assistance Program will host a six-week Gottman Institute Seven Principles Couples class beginning Oct. 10.

The course will be led by Valerie Williams, a counselor and trainer with the Employee Assistance Program. Williams is a certified Seven Principles educator and has completed level one training of Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

The class is designed for any couple in a committed relationship. Topics will include:

  • Fostering respect, affection and closeness in a relationship

  • Building and sharing a deeper connection with each other

  • Keeping conflict discussions calm and breaking through conflicted gridlock

  • Strengthening and maintaining gains in a relationship

The registration deadline for the course is Sept. 27. A one-time fee of $49 covers educational materials, including two guides, a copy of the “Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work” and Love Maps and Open-Ended Questions card decks.

Classes, all of which are 4 to 5 p.m. in the Nebraska Union, begin Oct. 10 and continue for six Thursdays. Additional meeting dates are Oct. 17, Oct. 24, Oct. 31, Nov. 7 and Nov. 21.
