Because President Donald Trump has declared Dec. 24 a federal holiday, University of Nebraska regular employees also will be granted a paid holiday on Dec. 24, Chancellor Ronnie Green has announced in an email to employees.

The president issued an executive order Dec. 18 providing for the closing of executive departments and agencies of the federal government on Dec. 24.

State law provides that when the president gives federal employees paid time off, the State of Nebraska shall grant the same benefits to state employees. Gov. Pete Ricketts also has announced that Nebraska state government agencies will be closed on Dec. 24.

This change will affect leave entries for the university’s holiday closedown from Dec. 24 through Jan. 1. Corrections to holiday leave entries can be made in January 2019. Employees should contact their departmental time coordinator for instructions or if they have questions.
