City Campus steam outage delayed until May 17-23

Nebraska's City Campus Utility Plant was originally built in 1929-30 as a coal-fired heating plant. Today, it generates steam and chilled water to provide heating and cooling to City Campus and some government buildings in downtown Lincoln.

Nebraska's City Campus Utility Plant was originally built in 1929-30 as a coal-fired heating plant. Today, it generates steam and chilled water to provide heating and cooling to City Campus and some government buildings in downtown Lincoln.

Due to weather-related concerns, the annual steam outage for City Campus will be delayed until May 17-23. Work on the East Campus steam distribution system remains on schedule for May 31 to June 6.

The centralized steam distribution system must be shut down to conduct required maintenance of equipment, including replacing and upgrading many key components of the university’s utility system.

Outage dates are scheduled based on decreased student activity on campus. During the outages, there will be no heating and no process steam available in building systems served by campus steam. Lower-than-expected daytime temperatures are the reason for the City Campus delay.
