Chancellor Rodney Bennett declared an instructional continuity day for Aug. 30 — Volleyball Day in Nebraska.

The Nebraska volleyball program will host a doubleheader in Memorial Stadium, followed by a concert by country artist Scotty McCreery. The University of Nebraska at Kearney will play Wayne State College in an exhibition match at 4:30 p.m. The Huskers will take on the University of Nebraska at Omaha at 7 p.m. Gates open at 3:30 p.m.

“This will be a historic day for UNL,” Bennett wrote in an email to campus July 26. “It is an incredible opportunity to celebrate Nebraska’s rich volleyball tradition and to show the world how Husker Nation stands up in support of our student-athletes.”

With the expected influx of 91,000 fans, Chancellor Bennett announced academic spaces on City, East and Innovation campuses will be closed to all activities not connected directly to the events in Memorial Stadium and other critical functions that require in-person working.

Following are additional details:

No in-person classes

Classes will not meet in person, and the majority of campus offices/facilities will be closed. Students should check for communications from their instructors for instructional continuity plans; only essential employees should report to work on campus; and all other employees should work remotely. Employees should consult with their supervisor to confirm if they are to work remotely or report to campus.

Building access

Most academic buildings will only be accessible via NCard on Aug. 30. University Libraries will remain open to the campus community. The Nebraska Union, including the bookstore, will be open to the public. The College of Law, College of Dentistry and University Health Center also plan to be open. And, all visitors should go online or call ahead to confirm hours of other campus venues (museums, theaters, shops, etc.).

Parking

Employees who have an existing UNL parking permit and who will be working on campus, must reserve a space at no cost through Parking and Transit Services. Details about this process will be announced via email from Parking and Transit Services.

Additional parking spaces will be made available to anyone attending the event. Cost for those parking spaces will be $10 for the day.

Planning for Volleyball Day in Nebraska remains fluid and information regarding parking, alternative transportation options and other details are forthcoming. Watch for updates at Huskers.com and in Nebraska Today.
