Campus plans shift to Microsoft cloud storage

UNL

A big change is coming to cloud storage at the University of Nebraska. Information Technology Services is beginning the process of moving all data off of Box to Microsoft 365 services.

Besides the benefit of using a storage solution that aligns with Microsoft services already used by the university, Box is dramatically raising its prices and ending its unlimited storage offering.

After January 2022, Microsoft’s suite of OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams will be the university’s preferred general-purpose storage and collaboration tool.

Information Technology Services will begin reaching out to targeted faculty and departments this summer to begin migrating their data. For everyone else, please follow these guidelines:

  • Don’t start moving now. When the time comes, Information Technology Services will provide tools and resources to migrate Box data.

  • Do start cleaning now. Delete unnecessary files and remove yourself from files or folders that you don’t want or need. When you are finished cleaning, remember to empty Box trash

  • Don’t use other storage platforms. Information Technology Services believes Microsoft 365 will provide campus users the best, and most secure, cloud storage experience.

Information Technology Services will continue to provide updates throughout the migration process. Learn more about the change here or by sending email to support@nebraska.edu.
