Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park near Royal will celebrate the culmination of the University of Nebraska State Museum’s 150th anniversary and the park’s 31st year with the Rockin’ Rhino Bash from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 25. Visitors can explore the park and participate in a variety of activities.

Experts from the NU State Museum’s paleontology collection will be on hand to identify fossils and artifacts brought by guests. Visitors also can explore the park’s nature trails, which include new Watchable Wildlife signs identifying plants and animals found in the area.

Rockin’ Rhino Bash activities are included with admission to the park. Members of the University of Nebraska State Museum will receive free admission. Ashfall Fossil Beds will also accept Blue Star Museums tickets, which provide free admission for active-duty military and their families, including National Guard and Reserves, up to a party of six. Visitors must have a state park permit. Permits can be acquired in advance from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission here.

“Ashfall Fossil Beds is a truly unique fossil site,” said Susan Weller, director of the NU State Museum. “We’re excited to celebrate the park and recognize its important role in research and education. We hope everyone in the community will take the time to join us for this fun event.”
