American Ballet, St. Louis Symphony team up for Lied shows

A sold-out two-night collaboration between American Ballet Theatre and the St. Louis Symphony highlights February’s shows at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Tickets for other performances are on sale online, by phone at 402-472-4747 or at the Lied Center box office, 301 N. 12th St. University of Nebraska-Lincoln students can purchase tickets at a 50 percent discount with a valid NCard.

The February schedule at the Lied includes:

"Jersey Boys"

  • “Jersey Boys,” 7:30 p.m., Feb. 8-10; 2 p.m. Feb. 10 — The 2006 Tony and Olivier award-winning best musical tells the story of how four blue-collar kids from New Jersey became The Four Seasons, one of the most successful groups in pop music history. It features hit songs “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Rag Doll,” “Oh What a Night” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”

  • American Ballet Theatre with the St. Louis Symphony present “Firebird,” 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16-17 — The renowned dance company unites for the first time with the seven-time Grammy-winning symphony for a performance of Igor Stravinsky’s masterwork. Misty Copeland will perform the title role Feb. 16, and Isabella Boylston will take on the part Feb. 17. Two dance duets, “Black Swan” and “White Swan,” and Alexei Ratmansky’s “Serenade after Plato’s Symposium,” with music by Leonard Bernstein, round out each performance.

  • Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 21 — Three permanent members of the Berlin Philharmonic and concert pianist Markus Groh will perform works by Franz Schubert, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johannes Brahms.

Snarky Puppy

  • Snarky Puppy, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 23 — This Texas-bred, New York-based quasi-collective defies easy categorization, with a sound that ranges from jazz and funk to pop and world music. The group won the 2016 and 2017 Grammy Awards for best contemporary instrumental album. Members have collaborated with such artists as Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar.

  • “Conspirare: Considering Matthew Shepard,” 7:30 p.m., Feb. 25 — Conspirare’s singers will be accompanied by a chamber ensemble in this performance observing the 20th anniversary of Shepard’s murder. The performance is presented by the Lied Center and Abendmusik.
