Education doctorate faculty from across the country will meet June 10 through 12 on Nebraska Innovation Campus for the semi-annual convening of The Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED).
Hosted by the College of Education and Human Sciences and led by the department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, the event will bring together members of 116 universities for discussion on how to develop and improve their individual education doctorate programs.
This is Nebraska’s first time hosting the convening. Ted Hamann, professor of education policy and practice, is one of the event’s principal organizers.
“It’s an honor that CPED approached us to host,” Hamann said. “We’re busy trying to live up to that honor not only by rolling out the red carpet of welcome, but also by leveraging the convening to showcase Nebraska’s excellent work to other programs around the country.”
Jill Perry, executive director of CPED, said Nebraska’s longstanding commitment to the organization and robust education doctorate program made it a natural fit for the convening.
“Nebraska was one of the first members of CPED, joining the organization in 2007,” Perry said. “”Both the Teacher Leadership and Educational Administration degrees it offers exemplify our organization’s understanding of education doctorates as the strongest professional practice preparation in education. We are excited for Lincoln to serve as the backdrop of our meeting and offer our member hands-on learning regarding how Nebraska created these fine programs.”
Unlike traditional academic conferences, the three-day convening will use an exchange format to encourage discussion about relevant topics in education, including social justice and diversity in programs.
Through these conversations, CPED hopes to provide faculty with the tools to elevate their voices in local, state and national education discussions, as well as enact change in their own programs.
