Lincoln’s Community Piano Experience, a group piano class offered as an outreach of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music piano pedagogy program, is being offered in the fall.

This program offers group piano classes that center on helping students develop basic music reading and piano-playing skills. Designed specifically for adults, this program offers classes at beginning and intermediate levels.

CPE Assistant Coordinator Rebekah Siles, a second-year doctoral student in the Glenn Korff School of Music, is in her third semester teaching in the Lincoln CPE program.

“I believe community is where music happens at its best, and this course makes that enjoyment accessible to anyone, regardless of experience,” she said. “I think it’s the least intimidating way to gain confidence in a new skill. Whether you took lessons years ago or are starting for the first time, consider yourself qualified. We’d love to have you join us.”

Students who have never played the piano (or have forgotten their lessons from childhood) will be enrolled in the beginning class on Tuesday evenings from Sept. 12-Dec. 5 (no class Oct. 17 or Nov. 21). Students with some established piano and music reading skills will be enrolled in the intermediate class on Thursday evenings from Sept. 14-Nov. 30 (no class Nov. 23). Classes will be held weekly from 5:30-7 p.m. each evening.

The class costs $175. That includes 11 weeks of group lessons, a textbook and all additional materials.
