Students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film and Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts will hold Open Studios events from 4 to 9 p.m. Dec. 10.
The events, all of which are in the Carson Center on the corner of 13th and Q streets, are free and open to the public. The full schedule, listed below, includes student performances and an interactive natural history museum.
The schedule includes:
- 4 p.m. Doors open for Open Studio
- 4:30 p.m. Welcome
- 4:40 p.m. Performance by Cooper Rohde (StoryWorlds) at the LED screen in the southeast window
- 4:45 p.m. Performance by AmunRa Jordan (StoryWorlds) at the LED screen in the southeast window
- 4:50 p.m. Performance by Vera Butterfield (StoryWorlds) at the main staircase
- 5 p.m. Moving Worlds in the first-floor space. In a three-class collaboration with Dance Composition, Media Sound Design and Creativity in Real Time, they will present a one-hour series of live mixed reality performances. Audience members will see dancers controlling avatars in fantastical worlds, with generative body-driven sonic media and immersive auditory landscapes.
- 6:15 p.m. Interactive Natural History Museum (Principles of Interactivity) in Rm. 101 South.
- 7:30 p.m. Performance by senior acting students “Objectivity: The Solo Performance Project” in the Lab Theatre, 3rd floor, Temple Building.
- 9 p.m. Close
Installations on the first floor of the Carson Center will include work from Computational Media I students, Principles of Interactivity, Visual Expression Studio I and II students.
Installations upstairs on the second floor of the Carson Center will include work from Master and Bachelor of Fine Arts candidates in the Johnny Carson School’s Design and Technology program, as well as the Emerging Media Arts courses including Innovation Studio, StoryWorlds, Sound Lab, Digital Fabrication, Cinema Production I and Lighting for Film students.

“Open Studios is a celebration of student work made during this semester, as opposed to portfolio review in the spring, which celebrates the individual student throughout their career here,” said J.D. Madsen, associate professor of scenic design and the head of Design and Technology in the Carson School. “The displays will be set up by project, or course or production to see the variety of artistic responses and practices.”
