Center for Electro-Optics and Functionalized Surfaces

George Gogos, Craig Zuhlke and Jeffrey Shield are part of a $9.2 million grant awarded by the Department of Defense to a team headed by Northrop Grumman Corp. The goal of the research is to create smaller, scalable 3D stacks of chips and heat transfer technologies that will help regulate thermal management in those structures. Nebraska’s Christos Argyropoulos has received a three-year, $750,000 early career grant from the Office of Naval Research’s Young Investigator Program. He will use the award to advance research into using ultrafast, short-pulse lasers to modify metal surfaces. The work has potential use in national defense applications.
