UNL is among the top employers competing in the National Bike Challenge.

The challenge is a nationwide event uniting bicyclists and encouraging new riders. It is a free competition designed to increase ridership and get participants to pedal 30 million miles between May 1 and Sept. 30. The event, organized by the League of American Bicyclists and Kimberly-Clark’s Scott Natural Brand, is now in its third year. Participation is free.

UNL ranks third among all participating national employers with more than 5,000 employees. The university’s 100 registered participants have recorded more than 57,300 miles.

Lincoln is second among communities of more than 200,000 residents, riding more than 583,000 miles. And, Nebraska is third with more than one million miles.

“The challenge ends later this month, so we are encouraging everyone to get out, ride their bikes and help the university finish strong,” said Jordan Messerer, assistant director for Outdoor Adventures.
