Paul Haar, Glenn Korff School of Music associate professor of saxophone ora, will present a faculty recital, “Too Late, Too Soon,” in tribute to his late mother at 7:30 p.m., March 27, in Westbrook Music Building, room 119.

The concert is free and open to the public. The concert will also be live webcast..

The recital will be a live presentation of material recently recorded by Haar and Tom Larson, associate professor of composition.

“’Too Late, Too Soon’ is a saying my mother used to use,” Haar said. “She would say, ‘Too late, too soon we get smart.’ It refers to how we commonly don’t realize how important the small things are in life and how quickly life moves.”

The recital will feature jazz standards that remind Haar of his mother, as well as original music. Standards include “Stella by Starlight,” “Body and Soul,” “Chelsea Bridge,” “For All We Know,” “If You Could See Me Now,” and others. Haar will contribute two original works including, “Dot’s Diddy” and “Too Late, Too Soon.”

Acclaimed saxophonist Haar has contributed his notable talent to numerous projects in both the jazz and classical genres and is recognized as being one of the most versatile saxophonists today. In addition to his solo work, Haar is active in such groups as The Southwest Horns Jazz-Saxophone ensemble, the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra, as well as his own duo and quartet. He is a native of Fremont, Nebraska.
