Three ensembles from the Glenn Korff School of Music are featured in three live webcasts this week. All taking place at 7:30 p.m., the Jazz Orchestra and the Jazz Singers will perform April 27, the Symphonic Band will perform April 28 and the Symphony Orchestra will perform April 29.

The Jazz Orchestra and the Jazz Singers round out the season with “At the End of the Day,” a concert about looking back while looking forward at 7:30 p.m. April 27 live from Kimball Recital Hall.

The two groups will perform music from all over the jazz tradition, including standards from the great American songbook, new pieces by innovative young composers, and contemporary masterworks. The concert includes music by Rosana Eckert, Maria Schneider, Lincoln native and Nebraska alum Andrew Janak and many others.

The Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. April 28 live from Kimball Recital Hall for their spring concert, “Get on Board.”

The performance features works by composers of African descent including Kenneth Amis, Julian Work, William Grant Still, Omar Thomas and James Reese Europe. The Band has programmed a 30-minute set from a much larger body of repertoire prepared and studied during the semester. The students were also presented educational units and supplemental materials on several of the composers, and others who’ve made significant contributions to Music.

The Symphony Orchestra will present “Articles of Faith” at 7:30 p.m. April 29 live from Kimball Recital Hall.

The program opens with Herbert Haufrecht’s festive Symphony for Brass and Timpani. Also featured is Charles Ives’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Symphony No. 3 “The Camp Meeting,” a work based on old American hymn tunes. Closing out the program is Felix Mendelssohn’s dramatic and triumphant Symphony No. 5, “Reformation.”
