Lique giving next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture

Printmaker Phil Lique will present the next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist and Scholar lecture Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Lique is a multidisciplinary artist working across print, sculpture, design and installation practices. Hailing from New England, he holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from Paier College of Art and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from Western Connecticut State University. Lique lives and works in Miami, Florida.

Lique collects and reads books for historical and aesthetic research purposes. His interest in western civilization, religion, occult practices and art history often become source material for his work, which manifests in sculpture, installation, printmaking, independent publishing and public programming.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln School of Art, Art History and Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students. Underwritten by the Hixson-Lied Endowment with additional support from other sources, the series also enriches the culture of the state by providing a way for Nebraskans to interact with luminaries in the fields of art, art history and design.

Each lecture in the series will be presented via Zoom this semester and are open to the public. Links for each lecture will be available online.

• Oct. 28: Leilani Lynch, foundations, 5:30 p.m. Lynch is curator of The Bass Museum of Art in Miami. Further information can be found online.. The lecture will be available via this Zoom link.

• Nov. 11: Robert Pruitt, painting, 5:30 p.m. Pruitt works in a variety of materials, but his practice is chiefly centered on rendering portraits of the human body, specifically the black body.
