‘Music and Milestones’ free for Husker students

Nebraska's original charter was created nearly 150 years ago on Feb. 15, 1869. The charter and other significant objects from the university's history will be on display Feb. 15 in the Wick Alumni Center.

University of Nebraska–Lincoln students can obtain free tickets for “Charter Day Celebration: Music and Milestones,” the Feb. 15 gala event celebrating the 150th anniversary of the charter that established the university.

The event, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, will feature celebrity appearances and performances by more than 300 artists. Ensembles include the Cornhusker Marching Band, UNL Symphony Orchestra, UNL Opera, UNL Dance, Chamber Singers, University Singers and the Varsity Singers. The multi-media performance will feature newly commissioned works aby Nebraska alumni David von Kampen and Garrett Hope. Host Jeff Zeleny, a Nebraska alumnus and senior White House correspondent for CNN, will guide the audience through some of the university’s major accomplishments. The event will culminate in a fireworks display.

Students may reserve one free ticket per person online. Students must present a valid NCard when they pick up reserved tickets from the Lied Center Box Office.
