During his time at Nebraska, Meyer researched crop stress management for greenhouse and field crops.

A retirement reception for George Meyer, professor of biological systems engineering, is 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 9 in L.W. Chase Hall, Room 2019.

Meyer received a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and a Master in Science and doctoral degree in food and agricultural engineering from the University of Massachusetts. He began working at Nebraska in 1978, becoming a full professor in 1995. During his 40 years with Nebraska’s biological systems engineering program, Meyer taught advanced modeling, instrumentation and controls, and thermodynamics for living systems.

His research was conducted in the areas of plant, soil, and atmospheric instrumentation applications; machine vision for plant species identification; canopy properties and crop stress management for greenhouse and field crops; and mathematical modeling and simulation of crop growth and development.

The reception is free and open to the campus community. A colloquium will follow at noon in Room 116.
