Water tour scholarships available to students

Water tour scholarships available to students

The Nebraska Water Center and Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute are offering students the chance to earn a scholarship to attend the 2014 Water and Natural Resources Tour.

Up to four scholarships will be awarded. Students from a University of Nebraska campus are eligible to apply.

The tour, which is July 15-18, will examine a variety of surface and groundwater issues in Colorado and Wyoming along the North and South Platte River basins. It will also feature an examination of flooding earlier this year along the South Platte River. Tour stops include reservoirs that make up the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s North Platte irrigation project. The tour begins and ends in Kearney.

The scholarships include a seat on the tour bus, meals and lodging during the tour, July 15-18. The awards do not cover lodging before or after the tour, or travel expenses to and from Kearney. A carpool may be available for students awarded scholarships.

Applicants must submit a resume or curriculum vitae and an essay (500 words or less) on “How the Water Tour will Benefit Your Ongoing Research.” Students must also include name, address, phone number, email, if they are currently receiving graduate assistantship and the name of the degree being sought.

Submit all materials electronically to pliedle@nebraska.edu by 5 p.m. June 10. For more information, click here or call 402-472-3305 or 402-472-9549.
