UNL seeks proposals to operate athletics retail merchandising

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking proposals to manage and operate all channels of its athletics department retail apparel and sports memorabilia outlets.

Athletics operates team stores in Pinnacle Bank Arena and Memorial Stadium as well as game-day outlets outside the stadium and at other UNL sports venues. A third party, whose contract will expire in mid-2016, manages all catalog and online business.

“Our retail operations gross about $3.3 million annually, with over two-thirds of those sales from our on- or near-campus store outlets,” said John Jentz, executive associate athletics director and chief financial officer. “We view this as a tremendous opportunity for a third-party operator to take our proven product lines and enhance the fan experience on game days, online and in daily retail opportunities.”

UNL encourages proposers to operate all phases of its retail merchandising businesses, but would consider bids for the catalog and online sales alone. Proposals are due Jan. 8, with the transfer of business operations scheduled for summer 2016.

Those interested can examine the Request for Proposals or can call Procurement Services at 402-472-4601 with questions.
