University Singers perform ‘Songs for a Better World’

On Thursday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music historic flagship mixed choral ensemble, University Singers, will perform Songs for a Better World: Music from around the Globe.

The UNL Glenn Korff School of Music’s historic flagship mixed choral ensemble, University Singers, will perform “Songs for a Better World: Music from around the Globe” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 in Kimball Hall. The performance will also be live webcast at http://arts.unl.edu/music.

The music, some new and some repurposed in a very modern way, comes from austere locations not normally connected with famous choral singing and choral composing. The concert’s music hails from Switzerland, the Philippines, Latvia and France. It also includes a number of fine works by very young and internationally skilled composers still in their youth, including: Philip Stopford from England; Eriks Esenvalds from Latvia; Paul Rardin from Philadelphia; and David von Kampen from Lincoln.

The concert will also feature some long-time traditional works and those made famous over many decades. The cost is $5 for general admission and $3 for students and seniors.
